Leather can also be dyed or varnished. These treatments have practically no effect on the engraving result. Often, a more contrasting result is achieved on dyed leather. Artificial leather can also be engraved, but it is recommended to perform a test on a scrap piece of leather before engraving to avoid mistakes.
